2.1.1 Use hypertext mark-up language commands to achieve a desired
page layout including headings, sub-headings and body text
2.1.2 Use hypertext mark-up language commands to select appropriate
text font and colour on the completed page
2.1.3 Design and build a small web site for an agreed purpose

Knowledge (What the candidate needs to know):
Basic HTML commands necessary to generate above products -ability
to use an HTML assistant (eg Word Assistant) is not sufficient
Basic typeface terminology -font, typesize and typestyle
Hierarchical addressing principles and practices in use throughout the web
Ability to represent the design of a site using an informal design tool
Evidence (How the candidate can show he/ she has achieved this
element):
Listings (annotated by candidate) of pages designed in both text
and browser format
Chart of design for web site
Demonstration of candidate's own web pages given by candidate
Records of oral/ written questioning
Performance Criteria (What the candidate needs to do):
2.2.1 Use hypertext mark-up language commands to include image files
into pages at appropriate places
2.2.2 Use hypertext mark-up language commands to change the background
for a page in an appropriate way
2.2.3 Use hypertext mark-up language commands to include graphical, and
audio or audio-visual objects within a page
2.2.4 Design and build a small web site for an agreed purpose
Range (Context):
Knowledge (What the candidate needs to know):
Basic HTML commands necessary to generate above products -ability
to use an HTML assistant (eg Word Assistant) is not sufficient
Hierarchical addressing principles and practices in use throughout the
web
Ability to represent the design of a site using an informal design
tool
Working definition of an object
Different types of object available and how file extension gives an
indication of the type
Ability to make judgements about the file size of objects and the
likely impact on their effectiveness as part of the page
Evidence (How the candidate can show he/ she has achieved this
element):

Demonstration of candidate's own web pages

Disc containing images and/ or audio/ audio-visual files (or directory
thereof)
Assessment Guidance
At least two different backgrounds used for pages
Four to five image files and at least one audio or video clip
included within pages
Web site of at least four pages with appropriate graphics and
audio-visuals
Performance Criteria (What the candidate needs to do):
2.3.1 Use hypertext mark-up language commands to incorporate
hyperlinks within web pages within a local web site
2.3.2 Use hypertext mark-up language commands to incorporate
hyperlinks within web pages to a remote web site
2.3.3 Show that, within a set of pages, hyperlinks have been
established in such a way that the value of the pages to
a particular user (or class of user) has been enhanced through more
effective access to the contents
2.3.4 Design and build a small web site for an agreed purpose
